One that a new author and their agent can use as a starting point to negotiation. Something to put down on the table after you’ve pushed the one they offered aside without a glance and say “No, lets start with this instead shall we?”

The Big Five have their boilerplate, why can’t we have ours? Unlike them the AG can do this without collusion. What better way to “unionize”? Lets just skip all of the talk and posturing and get right down to where it’ll hit them the most. If every new author/agent walked in with this in their hand it would send one hell of a message and it would do it RIGHT NOW.

If memory serves there was a little known writer in Hollywood named Harlan who would do this. Scared the hell out of the guy on the other side of the table.

I say we do this on a broad scale, starting with the AG and its members. Would the agents not get behind this? It puts them in a stronger position for both themselves and their clients does it not? Everything is still open for negotiation, its just the starting point that’s changed.Randall Woodhttp://www.randallwoodauthor.comnoreply@blogger.com
